In Loving Memory of our Dearest
December 26, 1948-March 23, 2023
A lifelong educator...
Kathy’s formal education includes a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, a master’s degree in special education and a specialist’s degree in education administration. Kathy worked first as a teacher, became a teacher consultant, assistant supervisor, and various other positions at Northville Public Schools.
She also worked as the Executive Director of Job Placement at the Wayne County ARC, the Director of Educational Therapy at Vista Maria, and then moved on to Wayne County's Intermediate School District (Wayne RESA) as their director of the Teen Parent Program. When the program closed, Kathy took over the newly initiated Michigan program for Medicaid Reimbursement on Wayne RESA’s behalf. In 2001, Kathy became the lobbyist for Wayne RESA, in addition to her position as the Executive Director of Medicaid, representing the superintendents of Wayne County in both Lansing and Washington DC.
Until her retirement in 2021, she remained in that position, becoming a national expert in school-based Medicaid Reimbursement. She served as the education representative on the National Alliance for Medicaid in Education (N.A.M.E.) for 19 states, often going to Washington DC to meet with the federal government to promote Medicaid services for special needs students.
Kathy’s work with Child’s Hope began in 1988. A few years into working as the Director Wayne RESA's Teen Parent Program, Kathy was asked to sit on the Board, which she readily agreed to do. When the Teen Parent Program closed a few years later, Kathy remained on the Board, serving as chair for various committees, Vice President, and President. Kathy resigned from Child’s Hope's board, as its President in 2022 after a 34-year run!
